Tsunami O Tsunami

i heard this word Tsunami first in the movie, Anbe Sivam where Kamal says Madhavan how his dad died in a Tsunami. Nobody would have ever thought Tamil Nature will show this kind of a face to the people walking on the Marina Beach, early morning.. i dont have scientific explanations for this.. but it is pathotic to have thousands of people dead, for no mistakes.. hundreds of children, innocent, poor and the old aged, unable to tolerate the powers of violent nature.

[ctsy:Xinhuanet.com]

im here sitting in the first floor.. and currently immobile after the fracture i had.. im wondering what i will do, if the whole city starts evacuating (like in most English movies...).. my Inability is i cant even walk, climb down stairs... i just have to sit and watch things happening to me holding tight in my hands my mom and Avyukta.

I felt the News Media, is underplaying things in this regard. I find poor quality in news coverage about the recent earthquakes and ocean scoldings. News channels can only talk more about rxpected earthquakes, and not the ones that really happened... there is no juice there.

Anyway, people thought 2004 will end smoothly, and even i though i can write a smooth review about 2004... but it had shown an entirely different face that it has not so far..

God save us all (and me in particular... )

I will be walking like Jonnie Walker on 10th January 2005. Lets see

Ganapathy Blogs !

This is supposed to be a Guest blog, and the Guest is Mr. Ganapathy, my peer in my office. He wanted to share a few information he observed in Rediff

Here goes...

The number of engineering graduates in India annually: 350,000.

The quality of engineers being produced in the country? Questionable.

This lacuna, in fact, stems not only from the lack of trained faculty, but also the dismal spending on research and development in higher education in India.

Engineering colleges in the country have been growing at 20 percent a year, while business schools have grown at 60 per cent annually.

Compared to India, the United States produces 70,000 engineering graduates. Europe produces 100,000 engineering graduates.

India also produces 60,000 MBAs every year.

Though the growth of graduate technical education has been stagnant since 1990 -- 5,300 in 2000 against 5,000 in 1990 -- undergraduate engineering and MBAs have each grown more than tenfold, according to a study conducted by
Naushad Forbes, director, Forbes Marshall.

Here is more data:

1. Five states -- Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala -- account for 31 percent of India's population, but 69 percent of India's engineers.

2. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Orissa account for 43 percent of India's population, but 14 percent of its engineers.

Yes, the Indian government has been responsive to quality concerns and has established various bodies like the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, All India Council for Technical Education, Distance Education Council and the National Council of Teacher Education. But the controls apply primarily to government institutions, with private institutions on the periphery of their purview.

For instance, NAAC has accredited 2,088 colleges and 113 universities in the 10 years since it was established.

But a study by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry points out that this does not really ensure quality in a dynamic and comprehensive manner, what with 306 universities and over 15,000 colleges spread across India.

Despite the huge numbers, higher education accounts for under three percent of the national research and development spend, compared to 15 to 30 percent in every other major economy, including Taiwan and Brazil.

China's R&D spend, for example, is a good 10 percent, says the Forbes study.

Now, you understand why i hate Education. (Huh !)

Mixed Bag - II

“Mr. Watson, come here, I want you.” With these words, spoken by inventor Alexander Graham Bell into his experimental telephone on March 10, 1876, an industry was born. For down the hall, Bell’s assistant, Thomas Watson, distinctly heard Bell utter the first spoken sentence ever transmitted via electricity. That achievement was the culmination of an invention process Bell had begun at least four years earlier."

Follwoing is a News from Lazygeek.net

This note on moneycontrol.com says that Life Insurance Corporation of India is planning to implement the largest insurance datawarehouse in the world by 2007. LIC is looking at a 60 terabyte Data Ware House size in the first phase. The application provided by Teradata – a division of NCR, will enable LIC to study trends not only among customers but also its 1 million strong agency force. The project will be implemented by Wipro and is estimated around Rs 40 crore (Rs 400 million), to Rs 50 crore (Rs 500 million).

Hey, i heard only 10% of the Indian Population is Insured under Life Insurance Corporation.. That means out of 100 Crore, only 10 Crore people are insured.. So, Life Insurance is spending 50 Crores for 10 Crore people.. that Rs. 5 Per Head.. (See im becoming a Statistical Genius..)

Max Downloads !

Yesterday, My uncle got a new PC (it is named Abirami). Abirami is a Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz processot, 1GB RAM, 19" LCD Monitor (Wow ! ), DVD Writer (Oh My !) and 250 GB Hard Disk (Whoops !). And the Good news is, my uncle helped me in hosting my photos, and my mayavaram uncle's photos on his Abirami. Abirami is awake all the time to help my File transfer.

To upload the photos, i downloaded Filezilla, To Make the photos into a thumbnail featuring Web Page i downloaded JAlbum.. But JAlbum doesnt work without a JVM. My new Avyukta doesnt have JVM .. so Downloaded the entire JRE of the J2SE from Sun- Java. Thats altogether a download of 25 MB.. 25MB on my dial up is like "me pulling a train using my hair".... fortunately everything was downloaded properly (not very fast...). People who would like to Organize and Publish their photos on a web page (if you have a File Host) you can download JAlbum from Snapfiles.com [Click here to go to Snapfiles]

Mumbai express Updates : Kamal is in a plan to hire a train from the Railway Ministry, to shoot a quite a lot of sequences in the movie. Hope, there is no chasing sequences, like the most movies.

Im planning to buy a nice Digi Cam, to capture the pleasurable moments of my life.(Duh !) After all i hardly find them. Actually, Camera is one invention of man, i hold a high respect for. It is a nice technology to capture your moments, and the time that made you happy. Freezing Time, and showing a proof of time. I'm flattered in the old monochrome Rich prints, that are still there in my albums. Photos of the life of my grandfather and his family. It is awesome, to see your face in Black and white.

By the way, why do we say Black and White TV and Colour TV, as if Black and White are not colours.... ??

Have you Upgraded yourself

With Technology growing everyday, our affordability also has increased. Chennai people never thought someone will buy Set Top boxes, and now, Set Top Box has a decent strength in Chennai. If a school kid is studying, he has a PC at home. All most all the homes have Telephones. Every single house has Television sets. 3 Out of 4 people would certainly have a MP3 player, and 2 out of the 3 will have DVD player too. This was not the case earlier.

Im not talking about today in comparison with 1960s. This was not the society even in 1995. I would say, the last 8 years have certainly created a stir, a storm or a revolution (take the word that you like the best !) in terms of Technology Reach. We have been silent observers of technology, and only a creamy layer used to buy Technology, and were capable of buying. But now, prices have come down, or is it, the affordability is increased... im not sure.. but now every one has access to current technology.

Im amazed, at the cell phones in particular. The exponential growth, the Mobile industry is facing is any organaizations dream. If a new model Nokia is introduced, i see it very quickly in some hands. Now, how is that possible ? I've seen People with a brand new 6610 worry about the new 6610i thats of the same rate they bought, but with additional features.. that just a difference of 2 months.

Even my case, Avyukta costed 40 thousand, and for the same rate.. we could buy a 64 bit computer. The cost thing is understandable.. because as more customers start buying.. prices tend to come down.. but how are more customers starting to buy.. How come more Honda Accords are sold.. How did Sony Wega come down to 11990.. and how did this all happen in 8 years..

Can Windows 95 be a simple answer to all these questions. ?

My Weekend - Lost in Underground

As Usual, installed a new game on a fresh weekend, that promised to be more entertaining than the exam weekends. This time it was a Need for Speed Version 7 - Underground. Even though mine is a High End PC, my Avyukta is not equipped with a Graphics Card, So.. the Quality was not felt in full.. But still.. The game rocked me.

This is my favourite car in the game (A Nissan Car). And in real life.. i dont even know to ride a Car.. (But who cares..)

Today is December 6th. Every year Sun News will say "Tons of Police are Surveiling the entire country, for sucpicious moves of terrorists". On my way to my office, i saw 3 police men close to virtually every 1/2 KM. No wonder, one day we will have December 6th as a Govt Holiday.

To all people who want to start a Blog, MSN has launched a new service. Click here to find out more.

Hope you heard about eBay, a world famous Aution site. You can get just about everything here. But recently a British enthusiasist has put for aution, Ladies and Gentlemen, a Nuclear Bomber Aircraft ??. Click here for more news on that.
My grandmother used to say, "This world is going somewhere in a reckless speed, and i can guess where it is upto !!", and then she would give a smile. Its all beginning to make some sense.

Irresponsibilities - Burning Ego !

It is as predicted, a Numerous number of cases start Swarming up towards Mr. Jayendra Saraswathi. Media is tearing him apart, and a few communal Magazines are giving Pungent Headings to the cases that are new born just every 12 Hours. This is wrong. Iam not for the support of Mr. Jayendra Saraswathi, but it is unnecessary to torture his name like this. I can only turn back to Mr. Jayendra Saraswathi with a wild face.

It should have been the Prime responsibility of Mr. Jayendra Saraswathi, to have renounced the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetathipathi position, right on the next day he was arrested. Let me be frank, it Hurts me everytime i see a marriage invitation, that says "with Anugrahams of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetathipathi". And it also hurts when papers and news media say "Sankrachariyaar and Srirangam Usha !". This is utter Irresponsibility. Who is right now the Authority of Kanchi peetam, He should either Command Mr. Jayendra Saraswathi, out of his position., or Bring up someone else..

If Mr. Jayendra Saraswathi's activities are so cheap, The media's depiction is cheaper.

Breaking News

Key accused Appu arrested in Acharya case !! Well, well well.. just as i said, there has been so many improvements for every 12 hours of the day in this case.. Now for the next 2 days you will read Books about Appu's school, his mom his dad.. his family. (look at me .. i have drawn an aversion toward the Tamil News Agencies)

Effects and After !

What you to someone today, is exactly what you will be done tomorrow. If you agree with this, read on.

Take a look at the picture below..

The first is an image, where you see Saddam Hussein's statue being pulled down, ,to mark the end of his Regime. And the other picture (taken yesterday) is Bush's statue (mock statue) being pulled by people of London. They did this to protest Bush's action regarding his Policies over Iraq.

By the way, are you able to appreciate that iam Updating this blog even between my Exams, or am i exposed that im very weak on my subjects, that im not ready to prepare for them.. either ways. Heh !

Yesterday, i had Distributed Operating System as my exam paper.. and i shed 32 quality papers.. each one could be an Academy award winning Screenplays.. You know, it is a difficult task to answer to a question you dont know (or not even heard about). Particularly in my Hall, almost all of us, wrote admiring stories about the Master-Slave processors..a 10 mark question. After the exam was over, we had Technical reviews (Duh !..) on every answer we wrote.. and not even a single one was close to the actual concept (whic i still dont know.. but Hey ! im a software guy.. i have excuses ;).
