There are a lot more. LOT MORE. We are humans. I know a many of us want to abolish all the categoizations and evolve under a single Roof ! But trust me, we always tend to categorize. We always want to split. I see people praised and critisized based on their jobs. That is how the Caste system started.. And we are "Murpokku vaadhigal" and we still do it.
The Way i see it, the "Murpokkuvaadhigal" have only developed a few more castes instead of abolishing.
"The Villiwakkam Auto Stand Union" will become a "Jaathi Sangam". "The Ayanavaaram Mudi Thiruththuvor Sangam" will be one too.. "Chennai Kaigari Vyaabarigal" will become a Vote Bank.
Guys, there are more castes than you thought there was !! What can you do ??

In any case, don't you think life is full of cycles Keerthi? Things are fond of repeating themselves. Most of the times, we don't realise it, and sometimes when we realise it, we surprise ourselves. One of it is the caste problem

i have never been one of those who shouted themselves hoarse about the evils of casteism. why? because i believe what is more evil than having different castes is the exploitation done in the name of trying to eradicate the evil. for example, education system. why are we still using the caste system as a basis for allocation of seats?? why not eradicate casteism there by using some other metric?? by such means we have legitimized the same caste system and i really don't think we will ever come to being caste free. besides the caste system in many ways is the human's need to be within a group of their peers. like how we like to stick to groups we are comfortable in. hard to get out of it.

correct, todays caste based differenciation might be outdated, but another form will replace it
categorization, caste system, reservation, the more we ignore it the more we are forced to think about it. As far as I am, I think few seconds to remember my caste but if I visit my village that is my adjective. We cant avoid it!

revathi, interesting. Aristotle talks of a cycle thats worth 25 years. he says every 25 years one cycle comes back to the starting point. As you say, in food, clothing and many other things we seem to be going back. hmm.. Caste System - what do you feel it is.. good or bad ?
iyengar, reservation system.. thats a different topic. But I hate that system being used in Promotions at work and Seat ALlocation in colleges.

afterall as u say the original caste system evolved from the occupation. whats the problem when it evolves? heck, its not even going to ask your opinion and mine. its already happening.

a auto driver can become a business man and can become a member in that association but a person from the dalith community cannot become a upper caste member. for that instance no person can change his community. Think about it. There is no chance for professions to become castes.
the world will progress into a small village in the future. Racial differences will vanish and the meak differences will disappear and only the larger ones will stand. For instance differences between the irish and british is coming down as it is with whites and blacks in america. Even in industriallised nations landlordism has lost its ground long back. For detailed study read the writings of marx & recent sociologists. otherwise it will be your mere fantasy that new castes will arise from the professions.
