Shri KR Narayanan [1920 - 2005]

Amid chanting of prayers of all religions and a 21-gun salute, the mortal remains of Narayanan were consigned to flames before a host of dignitaries. Narayanan died here on Wednesday at the age of 85 after a brief spell of illness. The last rites were performed by Dr S Ramachandran, his nephew, at a spot between 'Shanti Van', the memorial of Jawaharlal Nehru, and 'Vijay Ghat', that of Lal Bahadur Shastri. Prior to the rituals, representatives of all religions offered prayers for the peace of the departed soul.

He was a simple man.. when every T,D & H flew to phoren for treatments at the tax payer's expense, KRN got admitted in Vijaya Hospital for a heart surgery when he was the Vice President of the country.

That said, I felt that he wasn't good enuf to be the President of India. Unfortunately, he kept proving me right many a times.

We truly missed a good leader. His way of living while he is in office shows really how leaders in public office should lead theirs'. Standing in queue for casting his vote in one of the Lok sabha elections, while he was President, is one such rarity. Let us salute him.
