Forget the IT Operations... The way Chennai handled rain was ,indeed , impressive. I have seen water stagnations after 5 days of rain, few years back. But this rain missed it, even the next day.
After the rain, last month, the Electricity board guys cut down all the trees hovering over the Electric lines. Thats a safety measure. And it worked out. A short power outage during the next rain. Looked to me, as if I lived in a responsive society. The situation was not so, even few months back.
So, my friends say, these measures are taken only considering the TN Elections in mind. Hmm.
Whatever said and done. The Electricians and Metro Water guys who worked days and nights, and worked on poring rains, Thanks for making our days better.
I've called the EB and Water board and said that. You can do it too, if you feel so. Or do you think, they were just doing their Duty ?

congrats on 400th post. I didn't agree with your thought. In many suburbs, people live without Power for past two weeks.
Chidambaram, Thanks. Oh ! I didnt know that. But are you sure about two weeks. Power outage was there. But we used to have a lathorgic reply, and this time we had a responsible answer.
Whats your thought on the Water Stagnation prevention. Iam sure, that was better.
BTW, i went to the URL through your profile. Whaw ! Do you maintain udumalai.com ?
Its your 400th post! Congrats...
Keerthi, I had to read the post again to make sure you weren't being sarcastic. Great news if its true
Keerthi, definetly overall disaster management was better than ever (may be because of nearing elections). Yes keerthi, I do maintain udumalai.com. Thanks for your visit.
Thanks Vanathi.
Uma, It certainly is great news.
Chidambaram, its a brilliant site. I was temted to a great extent to buy a few books. I will do so, coming there.
nice to hear this.. i can't see whats going on in chennai from where i am.. does the newspapers focus only on the rain and flood part or do they also give credit to these government servants..
calling them and saying few nice words was a good gesture on your part.
unga plog pallandu valha. the Rain have changed the chennai peoples mind.
Prasad, news media is all about "Who is making mistakes ?". And i dont want the media to hype it too. It is better unsaid. Its just that it caught my attention, and wanted to blog it. And thanks.
jeevan, people's mind changed ? may be. :)
as a resident of chennai, i should say that the rescue team -- police, EB, acted really quick. Let's not talk about the area that are built in defunct lakes...who knows this rain has unearthed many a dormant lakes that never were --especially north chennai, velachery and madipakkam.
if people thought it will lower the land rates here..think again...people here have selective amnesia..not only towards the political setup as well as natural events
