TV and Education

Whats the funda behind this ?

Lots of Free-advices today on Dinamalar on how to score good marks. The top-scorers are on a free flow. "Dont watch TV. Slog for late night group studies". And all the things a typical Padipps will say.

Question : Why is the media crazy ? I'd want them to ask sensible questions to the politicians rather.

Coming back to the TV point. It is a bullshit statement that "Watching TV can bring down your marks". That means you are doing that memorizing stuff... Thats not the education you aspire. To me I dont find any difference reading a "Operational Research" and "The Hindu". (May be thats why I didnt get the marks ;) Both are informational sources. You read the data and learn. Once learnt, why should you re-read the Hindu ? Why should you stop watching TV, stop playing Sports ?

Children should be taught to learn, and not memorize. Teachers hide under a "Exam-point-of-view" phrase. And children mug it up and reproduce. Whats the whole point ?

TV is crap. Very true. I quit Watching TV because I have other ways of spending time. But quitting TV would certainly not have given me good marks.

I was a average kid at school, and that was the exact result I got in the final exams. Still I underwent all the "No-TV, No-Games, No-story books" protocol. That was just for the satisfaction of the people. I'd have got the same results if I were watching TV and doing all that.

Im sure even next year, and the years to come.. there will be some girl and boy suggesting Not to watch TV to get good marks. What an Artificial society.

BTW, Congratulations to all the Top-scorers and Good luck to the non-scorers.

Go watch TV.. You have been missing something called "Life".

Is that Sun TV bashing by Dinamalar?
Its ironic when our CM says TV improves GK,but these tots proves otherwise..

People dont loose intelligence by watching TV and they dont become intellectuals by not watching TV.

i am not sure why students in TN are slogging, arent they covered by reservations? :-)

As Prabhu said, it is Dinamalar way to ban the free color TV slogan of DMK..Always Dinamalar behaved as pro-ADMK and now it shows it again. And your points are correct. Only by not seeing the TV will not give good marks...

Agreed. Why are children made to slog so much and allowed to enjoy so little. If they do not play as kids when is the time?
I'd go one step further and say "set the books aside, switch off TV, Go out and experience LIFE " at least for 2 hours every day.Ashram school in Pondicherry le classku polenna parava illai anaal physical education ai miss panna koodadu. anda maadiri.

Lets see...what you when you have your own kids.
Its like this, TV paarthu padikaramoo illayoo we should not regret afterwards by saying that , chae we watched TV and wasted the time. The whole thing that most of us dont follow is proper planning.
I have seen my friends who are pakka planners and we used to tease him saying that they are leading a mechanical life....hmnnn whatever athu ellam oru kaalam :)

One more point to be noted.... nammalaa free ya vittalae we willr ead properly ..it is all the external force that makes us to not watch TV, go outside etc..

I am sure our Keerthi had experienced that and his kids too will in the future :)

Just Kidding

Probably those kids hint at the quality of the programs(TV-vida paadame thevalaamnnu!)! TV-le enna paarkarom-ngradhu poruthu, ille?

Wonder why Govt is supplying free TV's to the poor??

These days if you put a kid before the idiot box, he will simply lose his faith in education seeing the 14 year old comperes and hostesses raking in the big bucks dropping out of school.

I tip my hat off to all the parents who exercise self-restraint, forego the TV in order to provide a good study environment for their kids.

Good one!
I too like watching tv.. then i hate it too sometimes...Now i dont have a tv - because "right now", "out there" offers me more than "in there"...

All i know is TV or its absence has nothing to do with good marks.
I like the bit about "exam point of view":)... saying such things shuts down your thinking and asks you to focus on marks... unfortunately marks matter...mug up helps in marks...

There are a rare few who understand what they are mugging up and can deliever it on paper and still have fun on the way...

Excellent point by NV;))) - why is the govt. giving free TV?? :))

I say, kids must enjoy studies... not hate TV... there is a subtle but important difference: between saying "Hate TV" and saying "enjoy studying"...

i have also reduced the time of watching TV and started reading books, blogs and general knowledge.

Students should start watching TV and especially all the programs upto midnite and early morning when they come to 8th std. For sure, the parents wont allow them to watch the TV when they come to 10th or 12th standard. Consequently, the students will not get sleep until midnite and they have to do something .. which is reading. hmm.. purinjikkida maattaengireengalae :-)
