Veyyil - is Shankar's next production, and thats almost nearing completion. Vasantha Balan is the director. Except for Pasupathy, the pictures look very similar to Balaji Sakthivel's Kadhal. However, I hope the movie is good and successful. If this movie is successful too, we would get a very enthusiastic producer. GV Prakash is the music director. This guy in his childhood sang "Chikku bukku Chikku bukku rayile!" and yesterday sang "Kadhal Yaanai - Remo !" in Anniyan. AR Rahman's vaarisu. Paarkalam.. I mean Kekkalaam.
I've not liked much of Shankar's direction. Romba kozhandhaithanama irukkum. But his productions have some flair.. and maturity. I did not like the movie - Kadhal. And still dont.. But i always wished it to be a hit. We need producers like this guy and Prakash Raj. Prakash Raj did a very good job with Azhagiya Theeye and Kanda Naal Mudhal. Shankar's Imsai Arasan is a very novel effort, and has to be appreciated for trusting Simbhudevan for it.
Shankar has also promised another movie to Balaji Sakthivel, who is currently assisting his boss in making THE BOSS. Adhu enna gadhi aagappogudho !
I have one question hovering.. People who liked Kadhal so much, please answer this question. What was there in that movie ?

On kadhal - The nativity...
Keerthi, not that I liked 'Kadhal' movie and wanted to watch it repeatedly, but what touched me what the ending and knowing that it was a true story. Other good things were how things were very subtle and down to earth including the characterisation, the scene at Triplicane mansions etc.

- What was not there??? Or what else do you expect in a movie?
1) Screenplay - watertight
2) Acting - Terrific, as realistic as it gets. Check out Bharath's near-perfect Madurai dialect.
3) Music
4) Cinematography - Shot almost entirely in available lights
5) Realistic -Perhaps the most realistic in Thamizh movie history.
Plus there were no separate comedy track etc etc....
I like Barath's speaking tamil, and the song avan pathathuma naan poothucvittan. Good to hear that our new hero Vadivelu's Emsai is running house full shows. My favorite Director is Shanker.
you would have liked that movie if kamalhaasan acted instead of bharath and directed by manirathnam instead of balaji shakthivel.
let me not add or subtract to soonapaana since i did not see that movie..
what oscar winning aspect did u find in kanda Naal mudhal?
from what i saw in KNM, its a decent passable film avlo dhaan..
ipdi vena sollalama?
keerthi ku sophisticated a PC sreeram or his sishyan's camerawork, foreign locales, sweet music, gorgeous heroines irundha pidikum..
rustic a, interior tamilnadu la makkal epdi irupangalo apdi ellaam padam edutha pidikadhu!!
Some people may like it some may not! It depends on how u take it! Film is an entertainment medium, they are not here to educate people - appadinnu nennacha u would not mind it too much.
But having said all this, A success of a film is always because it has reached the Mass audience. Its not because of the fans - ok fans will make it run for 50 days, its not because of any publicity - ok it may make it run for 2 weeks, the grandiose is attrubuted only when it reaches the family, only when it reaches the common man, only when all of us - fans, media, the common man and the family can sit together and enjoy with contentment for the price they pay for the ticket!
I think Kaadhal was able to that!
Kaadhal was the same old story about two lovers, who dont end up together, one becomes a mental in the end, but the way it was picturized is what is good about the movie. How they meet, then after running away from house, how they survive on their own, and in the end, do they live happily? sometimes story doesn't have to be new, old stories can be showed in a new angle.
Ellaarum Pottu ennai Kalaasi Vittuteenga.. Konjam yosichchu padhil sollaren.. !
keerthi,
chi chi... ungala kalaasala... idhu verum karuthu parimatram...... :)
I think Bala(K) summed it up. I saw it on TV, so I may not have fully experienced the movie but more or less what Bala(K) stated were the positives. But the 'most realistic tamil movie'? Guys, Mullum Malarum anyone?(And mind, it did feature personnel from interior tamilnadu)?
I think the Maniratnam-Balaji Sakthivel angle is uncalled for. I think when Keerthi posed the question, obviously what he meant was "What was it about Kaadhal that gives it the cult status it has developed?" and not "Was Kaadhal even a decent movie. To cast aspersions on his taste(aversion to interior TN makkl ,preference for beautiful heroines etc) is, to me, over the top.
Given all the positives of Bala(K), still the question remains, would you give it the same status as Mullum Malarum?
everything, the movie had everything....
naivette of the lovers, love of parents...friendship...failure and moving on and not moving on.....
and it was beautifully potrayed..i fell in love with the movie..absolutely!!!
Balaji Saktivel seems to be one of the best around in the Tamil film industry today. Shankar is just a sophisticated Masala director, that too immature.
Hi
I feel the same with shankar, very immature director. But i do like kadhal for its 70:30 reality:masala ratio.
